The Muslim Association of Bolingbrook (MAB) is Hiring a Youth Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION

The responsibility of the Youth Coordinator is to provide development, coordination, and oversight of youth services, and to build a positive youth program. He must integrate recreational and artistic activities with educational and spiritual components and provide leadership to youth, including but not limited to tutoring and mentorship programs, community service, education, and cultural programs.

GOALS OF THIS POSITION

  • The Youth Coordinator must be a positive role model to instill the American Muslim Identity in the youth by educating them about the basics  of Islamic faith and practice within the American cultural context
  • Increase self-confidence and self-esteem in youth by developing youth leadership, facilitating positive peer-group relationships, and promoting bonds of friendship
  • Expand the youth group activities to allow youth to develop a commitment to community service and to join into different volunteer opportunities

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Develop engaging programming that will attract the youth
  • Hold annual events including, but not limited to deen intensive course, summer camp, community service initiatives, leadership workshops/forums, youth retreats, hiking trips, sporting competitions, ski trips, etc.
  • To increase attendance at MAB Youth Program activities and market youth programming to the community 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Must be fluent in the English language, oral and written
  • Must have extensive experience in working with youth and managing volunteers
  • Involvement in Islamic educational work, program development, and successful implementation
  • Experience with public speaking and giving presentations
  • Familiarity with issues faced by youth raised in North America is required

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Use of MS Office/Google Docs and the ability to create and maintain databases in Excel
  • Works well with others in a team environment and networking opportunities
  • Must have an approachable & youth friendly personality with hands-on approach to youth programs for both genders
  • Must have a favorable personality to cohesively work with the Muslim Community
  • Capability to receive and act upon constructive feedback and suggestions
  • Planning/organizing/implementing large-scale events/programs/activities as needed
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Islam

REPORTING

  • The Youth Coordinator will report directly to the Board of Director President
  • Monthly written reports that will be submitted to the MAB Board of Directors
  • The proposed responsibilities could be, but not limited to:
    • Friday night, Saturday & Sunday Activities: Youth mentoring/ tutoring program
    • Monday-Thursday Activities: Young Youth halaqas, sports, arts, etc.
    • Youth Group Development: Planning, organizing, coordinating, developing database
    • Outreach to Youth and Parents
    • Volunteer Coordinator: This is a new position that will be developed in conjunction with the person selected to fill this role
